Province receives September 11^th Plaque from the State of Arkansas

Mines and Energy Minister Lloyd Matthews today displayed a plaque that was presented to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador during last week�s Energy Council meetings in Little Rock, Arkansas. The plaque, a framed resolution adopted by the 83^rd General Assembly of Arkansas, recognizes the efforts of the people of the province on September 11^th, 2001.

"This plaque is another gesture of appreciation from the thousands of stranded travelers, and our American colleagues, that were greeted with Newfoundland and Labrador hospitality on September 11^th ," said Mr. Matthews. "During my visit to Arkansas I met many people who had heartfelt stories regarding the tragic events that took place on that day, and I was amazed at the number of people who expressed their appreciation to the people of the province for their generosity and efforts during that devastating period."

The resolution states: "Now, therefore be it resolved by the 83^rd general assembly of the State of Arkansas that we hereby express our profound and heartfelt appreciation to the citizens of Canada, particularly Newfoundland and Labrador, for their assistance on September 11, 2001, and for their partnership in the war on terrorism."

The plaque is available for viewing in the main lobby of the Confederation Building, East Block.
