MHA and minister meet with Glovertown council

Tom Lush, MHA - Terra Nova, and Municipal and Provincial Affairs Minister Oliver Langdon met with the Glovertown town council in St. Johns yesterday to discuss the towns capital works objectives for the coming year.

In the meeting, the council made a request to government for increased funding for water and sewer services in two areas of the town, Glovertown North and Glovertown South. After the town councillors made their presentation to Minister Langdon and department officials, the minister assured the town that their requests for water and sewer funding will be given due consideration for capital works funding for 2002/2003.

The council also requested assistance from government to purchase an emergency response vehicle equipped with state of the art equipment able to provide emergency assistance to Glovertown and surrounding communities on the scene of accidents. Minister Langdon encouraged the council to apply to the Office of the Fire Commissioner for assistance for this important regional service.

Mr. Lush said he was pleased with how the meeting went. "I am pleased that councillors did an excellent job in terms of presenting their needs to the minister and officials of the Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs," said Mr. Lush. "I am optimistic that when budget allocations are announced for the ensuing year that Glovertown will receive fair treatment and consideration in that process."
