Remembrance Day - Provinces sixth paid public holiday

Labour Minister Anna Thistle would like to remind employers and employees throughout the province, that Remembrance Day, Monday, November 11, is a paid public holiday.

The addition of Remembrance Day to the list of paid public holidays, was one of several amendments to the Labour Standards Act in December 2001.

"Three other provinces in the country have declared Remembrance Day a paid public holiday. This change places Newfoundland and Labrador among the countrys leaders in recognizing the historical significance and ongoing importance of this day," said Minister Thistle.

Newfoundland and Labradors Labour Standards Act provides for six paid public holidays. Along with Remembrance Day, the others include New Years Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day/Canada Day, Labour Day and Christmas Day.
