Minister attends opening of Police Week celebrations

ustice Minister and Attorney General Kelvin Parsons joined Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
Deputy Chief Gary Browne and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Assistant
Commissioner Larry Warren, along with Canadian Forces Commanding Officer Keith Mullaly,
and members of the military police for a cake cutting ceremony this morning, officially
recognizing the launch of Police Week events in the province. Police Week will run from May 13 - 18.

"Individuals who have chosen policing as a career face both challenging and unpredictable
circumstances. Often these officers perform duties under enormously difficult circumstances. As
we have seen through the events that unfolded on September 11, 2001, the quality of life that we
enjoy is due in large part to the continued service of these dedicated men and women. Their
efforts ensure the freedoms and safety of society which we hold dear."

Officers from both the RNC and the RCMP play an integral role in maintaining peace and safety
in our communities. "This tradition of service and sacrifice is a great testament to their sense of
duty and patronage."said Parsons

In his remarks, Minister Parsons commended the forces for their continued commitment and
dedication. This week is an opportunity for all to recognize the significant contribution of our
dedicated police force.
