Remote Electronic Access Project

Justice Minister Kelvin Parsons today announced the implementation of the Remote Electronic Access Project at the Sheriffs Office.

This new initiative in the field of civil enforcement law is the first e-commerce initiative for the Department of Justice and only the second such initiative for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The project will give approved users of the Sheriffs Office Judgment Enforcement Registry the ability to conduct searches and register judgments from their own computer sites via an internet-based web application system that has been fully tested from both security and other operational perspectives prior to implementation. It will also enable users to pay for such services on line.

"It squarely puts this province in the forefront of the field of civil enforcement of the law," said Minister Parsons. "This is an example of how the technology that is available to us, when combined with the imagination of our personnel, can be used to bring and make the services offered by the Department of Justice and the Sheriffs Office available to the people of the province where they work and live."

This initiative is being closely monitored by members of the civil enforcement community across Canada and the United States because of its innovative nature and potential for future development.
