Team Canada Atlantic Trade Mission to New York City
results in account win for St. Johns-based Consilient Technologies

Consilient Technologies of St. Johns is another winner from Team Canada Atlantics recent trade mission to New York City.

The trip has resulted in the acquisition of a new client for Consilient, the New York Department of Buildings (DOB). The DOB, which is one of 40 agencies that falls under jurisdiction of the City of New York and the Office of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, is purchasing Consilient software to extend its email system to handheld computers (BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds).

"The purchase of Consilients software is in response to the Department of Buildings recently launched initiative involving the procurement of computer technology to allow it to electronically share information with its offices in all five New York City boroughs," said Trevor Adey, president of Consilient Technologies.

The New York Department of Buildings will use handheld computers to enable building inspectors to receive wireless access to important information while away from the office. The initial order for the DOB is for 30 client access licences for the software.

"The Team Canada Atlantic trade mission concept has produced very enviable results since it began in 1999," said Gerry Byrne, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. "Through seven trade missions in four different U.S. markets, Atlantic Canadian companies have negotiated or signed long-term business deals for a value exceeding $175 million."

"Trade and export development is a key priority of the provincial governments Renewal Strategy for Jobs and Growth," said Kelvin Parsons, Minister of Industry, Trade and Rural Development. "Canadian technologies, such as BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds, are making important inroads into U.S. markets, so I am pleased that a Newfoundland and Labrador company like Consilient Technologies, with its unique software, is working to promote the export of Canadian-made technologies to create jobs here at home."

"The Department of Buildings is one of many customers we are pursuing in the New York City market," said Mr. Adey. "Under the recently established Homeland Security initiative in the United States, Consilients software products are playing a key role in helping all levels of government improve their wireless communications during emergency response situations."

The Team Canada Atlantic trade mission to New York City took place from November 4-7, 2002. Team Canada Atlantic is a cooperative effort between the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the four Atlantic Provinces, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Industry Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters.
