IT company working to expand client base in New York area

Creative Business Solutions Inc. of St. John's is excited to be part of Team Canada Atlantics first trade mission to New York City.

After all, the companys audit and inspection technologies are already at work in the New York area. In fact, the companys client Liberty Mutual used CBS Inc.s audit system as part of their role in helping manage safety and risk issues associated with cleanup activities of the World Trade Centre following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the centre and other U.S. sites.

While clean-up efforts at the site are winding down, CBS Inc.s efforts to expand their client base in the New York area continue, including participating in the Team Canada Atlantic trade mission.

Company president Brian Dicks said companies theyve met with so far during the trade mission "have shown great interest in our technology for their operations. We have a full slate of meetings with New York companies this week and look forward to profiling our Newfoundland-developed technology solutions for their needs in New York."

Premier Roger Grimes said that in addition to CBS. Inc., other business delegates from Newfoundland and Labrador are also encouraged by the productive meetings they are having and by the contacts they are making during the trade mission. "As with all trade missions, particularly the first one in a specific market area, trade missions are a vital first step in making and maintaining strong business contacts. Government will continue to work with the companies following this mission as they build on the new business relationships they are establishing here this week."

In addition to meeting with potential new clients, CBS Inc. has also scheduled meetings with existing client Liberty Mutual. CBS Inc., developer of the PPM (process and performance measurement) software, has an agreement with Liberty for the use of PPM audit and inspection management system by Liberty business operations, and for Liberty customers. Libertys use of the PPM system increased after the September 11 attack on the World Trade Centre, especially for select initiatives to manage various risk and loss management.  Recently, CBS Inc. partnered with Liberty to provide audit and inspection management software for Libertys operations and clients.

"We are pleased to be partnered with Liberty Mutual here in the U.S., and were very proud that our safety technology was able to assist in some way with helping during the very difficult and trying cleanup of the World Trade Centre," said Mr. Dicks.

About 90 per cent of CBS Inc.s clients are based in the U.S., with several representing Fortune 500 companies.

Mr. Dicks noted that while the company has a strong U.S. client base and hopes to increase it through efforts such as the trade mission, the company is also looking at opportunities in Newfoundland and Labrador. "There are several strategic safety initiatives happening within our province, and we will be taking what we have learned through our U.S. experience back to the province for local occupational health and safety and workers compensation solutions," he said.

The trade mission continues through today. The Team Canada Atlantic Mission to New York City is a cooperative effort between ACOA, the four Atlantic Provinces, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Industry Canada and the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters.
