Local company signs memorandum with museum in Russia

Festival of Flags Inc., Argentia, and the Central Armed Forces Museum of the Russian Federation have signed a memorandum of cooperation and understanding.

The memorandum was signed in Moscow today during Team Canadas February 12-22 trade mission to Russia and Germany.

Elaine Murray, Project Manager for Festival of Flags Inc., said the memorandum reflects the two groups shared concern for the preservation and presentation of Canadian and Russian military history, as well as a common concern for world peace.

Colonel Alexander K. Nikonov signed on behalf of Central Armed Forces Museum.

Festival of Flags Inc. has a master plan to construct a 10,000 square foot Museum of the Atlantic Allies at Argentia, as well as outside exhibits. The plan also envisions an international peace centre.

Ms. Murray said that under the memorandum, Festival of Flags Inc. will have access to Central Armed Forces Museums exhibits, artifacts, historical research and documentation concerning Russias participation in World War II and its role as an ally in that war. The institution will also examine the potential of a more formalized relationship if this is deemed to be a desirable and effective way of enhancing cooperation between the two groups.
