Canada Career Week - Focus on the Journey

Judy Foote, Minister of Education, Sandra Kelly, Minister of Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education, and Ralph Wiseman, Minister of Human Resources and Employment, are pleased to promote Canada Career Week in Newfoundland and Labrador.

From November 3-9, people across the province and the country will participate in events and activities that offer an opportunity to find out about trends in the labour market, pursue career interests, attend career fairs, talk to role models, or even volunteer in a chosen work environment. The theme of Career Week 2002 is Focus on the Journey.

"The goal of Career Week this year is to encourage Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to discover the education and training they will need to succeed," said Minister Foote. "It is important that our students receive a quality education which will provide them with a solid foundation thereby ensuring their success at the post-secondary level."

"Canada Career Week highlights viable career options and the need to plan for your future," said Minister Kelly. "Career planning is a priority for the Department of Youth Services and Post-Secondary Education. I encourage all students in the province to take time this week to explore potential career options by visiting a career fair, talking to a guidance counselor or visiting one of the many career sites available on-line, including our own department website at www.gov.nl.ca/youth."

Minister Wiseman added: "The province is recording impressive economic growth this year, and this is the time for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to take advantage of increased opportunities within our expanding provincial labour market. The Department of Human Resources and Employment offers resources to help people research career opportunities and options. These include the newly redesigned NLWIN, a site offering ready access to career planning, learning, employment, and programs/services. This is accessible at: www.gov.nl.ca/nlwin."
