Freshwater man pleads guilty to wildlife charges

Twenty-five year old Lloyd Traverse of Freshwater recently pleaded guilty in provincial court in Placentia to hunting without a big game licence. Mr. Traverse was fined $3,000 and sentenced to 30 days in jail. He was also prohibited from holding a big game licence for five years and a quantity of moose meat was forfeited to the Crown.

The charges were laid following an investigation by conservation officers with the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods. Two other charges of applying for a big game licence while being prohibited and possession of big game were withdrawn. The investigation also involved the Placentia detachment of the RCMP.

Mr. Traverse was previously convicted of a big game offence on October 1, 1996 and was prohibited at that time from holding a big game licence for five years.
