Minister announces silviculture funding for Windsor-Springdale district

Forest Resources and Agrifoods Minister Rick Woodford has announced funding of $42,500 for a silviculture project in the provincial district of Windsor-Springdale. The funding is being provided through governments provincial silviculture program.

Mr. Woodford says silviculture projects ongoing throughout the province play a vital role in sustaining a future wood supply for the province. "It is through initiatives such as this site preparation project in Windsor-Springdale that government is demonstrating its commitment to responsible forest management," said Minister Woodford. "In addition, the provincial silviculture program creates meaningful employment opportunities in rural communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador."

This project will consist of site preparation work on 185 hectares in the Seal Bay area that will allow for a separate project for planting in 2003. Activity is expected to commence on July 15 and continue until mid to late August. The contract for this project was awarded to Quest Inc. of Birchy Bay.
