Department announces Conservation Officer of the Year

The Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods has selected Sheldon Anstey of Cottlesville, Notre Dame Bay as Newfoundland and Labrador�s Conservation Officer of the Year for 2000.

Mr. Anstey, conservation officer II, was presented with the prestigious award by Minister Rick Woodford during a recent ceremony in Corner Brook. The Conservation Officer of the Year award, presented annually by the department, is sponsored by Shikar-Safari Club International.

Mr. Anstey has been working with the department for 11 years and involved in the delivery of many programs. He currently carries out his enforcement duties in the Corner Brook - Bay of Islands area and is stationed at the Massey Drive district office in Corner Brook.

Minister Woodford said Mr. Anstey is indeed an outstanding conservation officer and deserving of the Conservation Officer of the Year award, which focuses on commitment to conservation, protection of our natural resources and educating the general public.

"Throughout his career, Mr. Anstey has been extremely committed and dedicated to protecting our valuable natural resources. His professionalism has been continually demonstrated during his involvement in many major investigations that have taken place in the western region," said Minister Woodford. "Our department is proud to have such an outstanding and efficient conservation officer as part of our integrated enforcement team."

Shikar-Safari Club International carries out conservation projects throughout the world. All Canadian provinces and territories and the 50 states in the United States participate in the Officer of the Year program.
