NLIS 7 January 23, 2002 (Fisheries and Aquaculture) Minister announces details of public consultations on the FPI Act Gerry Reid, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, today announced details of the public consultations on the FPI Act, which will commence starting next week. "Last week, I invited the opposition parties to participate in an All-Party Committee, to travel around the province for public consultations regarding the FPI Act," said Reid. "I am pleased that both opposition parties have agreed to join with the government, and we will commence these public consultation sessions on Monday, January 28." The schedule of meetings is as follows:
"I would like to encourage all stakeholders and the general public to take the opportunity to attend these sessions and express their views," added Reid. "The fishery remains the backbone of our rural economy and way of life, and I look forward to hearing from the people on this important matter." Copies of a Consultation Document may be obtained starting January 24, 2002 in either of the following ways: via the government Web site at www.gov.nl.ca; by calling (709) 729-3712; or at Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Regional Offices. Groups or individuals have the option of making a 10 to 15 minute oral presentation at one of the sessions, or they may speak briefly at the open microphone after presentations are completed. Participants should call (709) 729-3712 in advance to schedule a time for your presentation. Minister Reid will be joined by three of his caucus colleagues, Trevor Taylor of the Progressive Conservatives and one of his caucus colleagues, and Jack Harris, Leader of the New Democratic Party.
