Ministers visit Northeast Avalon Region of Strategic Social Plan

The Social Policy Committee of Cabinet is in St. Johns today for meetings with the Northeast Avalon Region Steering Committee of the Strategic Social Plan. This is the fifth in a series of working visits to SSP regions.

These working visits give ministers the chance to hear from steering committees about the work they do to implement the SSP, and visit sites that are good examples of the plans focus on early intervention and prevention, building partnerships and increasing community involvement.

"The commitment to this process by stakeholders is evident in every region we visit, and the visits serve as a forum for social policy ministers to reaffirm their support for the SSP," said Education Minister Judy Foote, Chair of the Social Policy Committee.

Ministers will visit St. Teresas Elementary-Ecole St. Therese to learn more about a successful literacy program for early readers, and the Virginia Park Community Centre to see firsthand the results of involving people in their community.
