Premier outlines first years accomplishments

For the one-year anniversary of his administration, Premier Roger Grimes outlined governments accomplishments on behalf of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. As part of his openness and accountability policy, Premier Grimes considered the anniversary an opportunity to report publicly on his administrations actions and positions on issues of concern.

"I committed to opening this government to the people of this province because I wanted each Newfoundlander and Labradorian to understand what this administration stands for, and what we will act upon," said Premier Grimes. "In the first year of office, this revitalized administration aggressively pursued initiatives which we felt would positively affect each resident of the province. We accomplished many things, but we still have a great deal we want to accomplish."

The premier highlighted points from the past year, including recognizing Labrador in the provinces constitutional name, reducing tuition fees, reaching an agreement with provincial labour unions, continuing the fight for fairness for offshore revenues and striking a strategic partnership with business and labour leaders. However, Premier Grimes stated that the next 365 days will continue to see solid initiatives based on the needs of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians implemented.

"I am looking forward to the Speech from the Throne, which will outline to all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians what we will accomplish in the next year. It will certainly be another year of moving forward in the best interests of this province."
