Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment Minister Kevin Aylward has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Crown Forest Management District 2 (Burgoyne�s Cove) Amendment

Proponent: Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods

The proponent proposes to harvest approximately 2,015 cubic metres of mature balsam fir and black spruce forest annually over next four years (8,060 cubic metres total) from the Beaver Pond area located approximately eight kilometres northeast of the community of Burgoyne�s Cove in Forestry Management District 2. The undertaking will require the construction of six kilometres of forest road to access the Class III wood proposed for harvesting. The proposed road will be a branch from the existing Burgoyne�s Cove Forest Resource Road. The project was registered on October 10, 2002; public comments are due by November 20, 2002; and the minister�s decision is due by November 24, 2002.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known.
