Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment Minister Ralph Wiseman has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act.

PROJECT PERMITTED TO PROCEED:

Duck Pond Copper-Zinc Mine
Proponent: Thundermin Resources Inc. and Queenston Mining Inc.

The minister has confirmed that the Environmental Impact Statement for the Duck Pond Copper-Zinc Mine is satisfactory and the Lieutenant Governor in Council has permitted the project to proceed subject to the following terms and conditions:

(a) that Thundermin Resources Inc. and Queenston Mining Inc. abide by all commitments make in the Environmental Impact Statement dated August 6, 2001 and the addenda to that statement;

(b) that Thundermin Resources Inc. and Queenston Mining Inc. submit an Environmental Protection Plan for approval by the Minister of Environment prior to the commencement of construction; and

(c) that Thundermin Resources Inc. and Queenston Mining Inc. obtain and abide by the requirements of all licences, permits, approvals, certificates or other documents of authorization required by law.

NEW UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Andrews Cottage Access Road (Ironstone River, Labrador)
Proponent: Cyril Andrews

The proponent proposes to construct a cottage access road of approximately 700 m from an existing exploration road to provide vehicle access to an existing cottage. The route is accessed from the Walsh River cottage road, follows an existing exploration road for approximately 350 m with the remaining 700 m constructed on an old skidder/ATV trail. The route will run parallel to the Ironstone River. The right-of-way will be approximately nine m wide with a travelling surface of approximately six m. Construction is planned for the spring of 2002 and is expected to take approximately two days to complete. The undertaking was registered on January 31, 2002, public comments must be received by March 7, 2002 and the minister's decision date is March 17, 2002.
