NOTE TO EDITORS:

Beverage recycling program celebrates its fifth anniversary

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the beverage recycling program. To commemorate this event and the success of the provincial recycling program, the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board (MMSB), in cooperation with the Green Depots, will be holding a province-wide celebration from January 28 to February 2.

For the past five years, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians have been recycling their beverage containers and doing their part to help protect our environment. Since the beverage recycling program started in 1997, almost 450 million beverage containers have been recycled and diverted from our landfills. To thank those people that have made a commitment to our environment, residents are invited to drop by their local Green Depot and participate in recycling contests, tours, and enter to win recycling prizes.

The anniversary celebrations will take place at every Green Depot across the province from January 28 to February 2 and all media are invited to drop by their local recycling depot.

Please contact your local recycling depot to obtain more information about what activities are planned in your area.

Media contact: Karen ONeill, Communications, (709) 753-0949.
