NLIS 7 January 25, 2002 (Environment) Environmental Assessment Bulletin Environment Minister Ralph Wiseman has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. NEW UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
The proponent has submitted a five year forest operating plan for Crown land in District 18 (Roddickton), which is located on the northern half of the Great Northern Peninsula. The plan covers the operating period from April 2002 to March 2007. The plan describes past forestry activities, the allocation of wood supply and harvesting, silviculture activities, road construction and environmental protection. The plan describes a potential harvest of approximately 108,000 cubic metres of timber each year by commercial and domestic harvesting. Construction of 136 kilometres of forest access roads is proposed. Also proposed is 3,950 hectares of silviculture treatment through stand reclamation, planting and thinning. The undertaking was registered on January 24, 2002; public comments are due on March 1, 2002; and the minister's decision is due on March 10, 2002. DATE OF MINISTER'S DECISION EXTENDED
The proponent has agreed to an extension of the minister's decision deadline. The minister's decision is now due on February 15, 2002. The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known.
