Provincial high school
scholarship winners announced
Education Minister Judy Foote is pleased to
announce the winners of the 2002 Provincial High School Scholarships. The
Government of Newfoundland and Labrador awards 201 scholarships each year
with a total value of $202,500 to students who are pursuing post-secondary
studies.
The Junior Jubilee Scholarship is awarded to
Nithum Thain of Prince of Wales Collegiate, St. John�s. This scholarship,
valued at $2,500, is awarded annually to the student who achieves the
highest score in the provincial scholarship exam.
The Constable W.C. Moss Scholarship, valued
at $1,000, is awarded to the son or daughter of a member of the Royal
Newfoundland Constabulary or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, active,
retired or deceased, who attains the highest score on the scholarship exam.
The winner of this year�s scholarship is Michael Martin of Gander
Collegiate.
A total of 154 electoral district
scholarships, valued at $1,000 each, are awarded to the three graduates who
score highest on the scholarship examination in each electoral district.
Fifty-five Centenary of Responsible Government Scholarships are also awarded
based on outstanding achievement in the scholarship examination. These are
also valued at $1,000 each.
"This is an exciting time to be a
graduate in Newfoundland and Labrador," Minister Foote said. "I
offer my sincere congratulations and best wishes to these students and to
all graduates who are welcoming new challenges and new opportunities in
their post-secondary pursuits."
