Continued commitment to professional development

The budget for professional development is maintained at $4.4 million for the 2002-2003 fiscal year.

"Newfoundland and Labrador has one of the most highly qualified teaching work forces in the country. In order to maintain this distinction, teachers must have the opportunity for sustained professional development so that our students can benefit from new curriculum at all levels of the school system," said Education Minister Judy Foote.

The focus for professional development this year includes literacy, curriculum implementation, and the unique and individual needs of students at the intermediate level.
