New money for school construction and renovations

An additional $10 million has been allocated in 2002-2003 to address priority construction and renovation in the provinces school system.

"This funding is in addition to the $23 million announced last year, bringing the total investment in school construction and renovations since education reform to $170 million," said Education Minister Judy Foote. "We are committed to ensuring our students receive the highest quality education in state-of-the-art schools, complete with modern teaching and learning resources. Our investment in new school construction and renovations is an example of governments commitment to education and to our provinces greatest resource - our youth."

To date, students are attending classes in new schools in 11 communities: Buchans, Clarenville, Hopedale, Nain, Norman Bay, Pollards Point, Rigolet, Upper Trinity South, Arnolds Cove, Lethbridge and Pouch Cove. Planning or construction is under way for 15 more facilities.
