Family Literacy Day Read-In

Education Minister Judy Foote will join local childrens authors in a Read-In to celebrate Family Literacy Day, which is sponsored by the ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation. The Read-In, hosted by the Literacy Development Council of Newfoundland and Labrador, will take place at the Arts and Culture Centre Childrens Library on Sunday, January 27 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The minister will be joined by local childrens authors Susan Chalker Browne, Carmelita McGrath, Janet McNaughton and Ed Kavanagh. Mr. Wizard will also be at the library to perform a magic show entitled, I Love To Read, and children will have the opportunity to play reading games and win prizes.

The Literacy Development Council will also launch a poster contest entitled Families Reading and Succeeding. Learners of all ages will be asked to submit posters which illustrate family literacy to the Literacy Development Council. Winning entries will receive prizes, including magazine subscriptions and books.

Family Literacy Day encourages people of all ages to take time to read every day and emphasizes that learning is a family affair.
