Roads, airstrips being upgraded on north coast

Works, Services and Transportation Minister Percy Barrett and Torngat Mountains MHA Wally Andersen are pleased to announce that work will begin immediately to upgrade roads and airstrips on Labrador's north coast.

Labrador Construction Ltd. of St. John's has been awarded a $2,868,893 contract to upgrade roads in Postville and Rigolet, as well as carry out improvements to the airstrips at Davis Inlet and Postville.

"We're pleased to be able to commit this funding," said Minister Barrett. "This work is important to the economic well-being of the area, and also will certainly make a difference in people's daily lives."

"This funding demonstrates government's commitment to improving transportation infrastructure in northern Labrador," said Mr. Andersen. "As the member for Torngat Mountains, I am pleased to be able to secure this funding to improve the quality of transportation services for people in my district."

The work is scheduled to be completed by October 31, 2001.
