$1.5 million for roads in Mount Pearl
Oliver Langdon, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, and Julie Bettney, MHA - Mount Pearl, today announced $1.5 million in funding for the City of Mount Pearl. Projects will have a provincial-municipal cost-sharing ratio of 50/50.
"This is a significant amount of funding provided through the Municipal Capital Works program for paving and road reconstruction for the City of Mount Pearl," said Minister Langdon.
Ms. Bettney said: "I am pleased to announce $1.5 million for roads in Mount Pearl. The funding will enable the city to improve the overall transportation system in Mount Pearl."
Mount Pearl Mayor Dave Denine said: "Mount Pearl is very pleased to receive this funding and has allocated the money to increase general road conditions and thereby increase road safety."
Under the Municipal Capital Works program, $17 million will be spent provincially on a number of projects including those related to water quality, road work, solid waste management, fire fighting equipment and other municipal infrastructure needs.
Projects recommended under the Canada-Newfoundland Infrastructure Program will be announced within the coming weeks as they receive approval through the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency.
