Major road work for Bonavista North

Percy Barrett, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Beaton Tulk, MHA - Bonavista North, today announced government will invest $1.175 million in road upgrades for the district.

"There is some much needed work to be done on roads in the area and this funding will ensure some of the needs are addressed," said Mr. Barrett. "Government reaffirmed its commitment to transportation upgrades during the provincial budget announcements and we are following through on that commitment."

Projects for 2001/02 include upgrading and repaving Harris Point Road and a section of Gander Bay Road (Route 330); resurfacing approximately 1.5 kilometres of Carmanville North Road; and replacing a culvert at Noggin Cove.

"Ongoing improvements to, and maintenance of, the road network of Bonavista North are an important part of the overall economic development of the district," Mr. Tulk said.

The department expects to call tenders for the projects over the next couple of months.
