North West River Road to get facelift

The provincial government has allocated a total of $530,000 to upgrade sections of the North West River Road this year. The announcement was made today by Works, Services and Transportation Minister Percy Barrett and Lake Melville MHA and Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs Minister Ernie McLean.

"Im pleased that weve been able to secure this funding to improve this vital link between Happy Valley-Goose Bay and the communities of North West River and Sheshatshiu," Mr. McLean said. "Being a resident of North West River, who frequently travels over this road, I look forward to seeing the work completed."

"The funding demonstrates governments commitment to improving Newfoundland and Labradors highways," said Mr. Barrett. "This funding, which comes from our provincial roads budget, will allow us to upgrade and resurface approximately five kilometres of the North West River Road. Government made a commitment to improving highways in Newfoundland and Labrador and we are following through on that commitment."

The department expects to call tenders for the projects over the next couple of months.
