Half a million dollars in road improvements for Grand Falls - Buchans

Percy Barrett, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Anna Thistle, MHA - Grand Falls - Buchans, today announced $500,000 from the provincial roads budget has been allocated for upgrades in the district.

"Government is committed to improving roads throughout the province and this funding has been allocated to two areas of the district which we feel are a priority right now," said Barrett.

Projects for 2001/02 include resurfacing approximately five kilometres of the Buchans Highway and rehabilitation of Little Red Indian Bridge in Badger.

"This work will greatly improve the safety of the travelling public and will enhance the economic development of the area," said Thistle.

The department expects to call tenders for the projects over the next couple of months.
