Road improvement projects announced for Exploits

Percy Barrett, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, today announced $985,000 in funding for road upgrades in the district of Exploits.

"Government made a commitment to improving highways in Newfoundland and Labrador and we are following through on that commitment with increased funding for our provincial roads program," said Barrett. "This funding will allow us to make significant improvements to roads in the Peterview area, which is a priority this year."

Specifically, the 2001/02 projects include repaving and minor upgrading to Peterview Road and Swanee Pool Road; replacing a culvert on Swanee Pool Road, Peterview; and repairing the handrail and expansion joints on the Penstock Bridge on the Trans Canada Highway.

The department expects to call tenders for the projects over the next several months.
