$1 million for road improvements in Fortune Bay - Cape La Hune

Percy Barrett, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Oliver Langdon, MHA - Fortune Bay - Cape La Hune, today announced government will spend $1 million on road upgrades in the district.

"This significant amount of funding is part of our provincial roads program which was announced during the provincial budget," said Barrett. "At that time, government reiterated its commitment to upgrading roads throughout the province and now we are following through on that commitment. The upgrades announced today will go a long way in improving driving conditions in the area."

Projects planned for the area include pulverizing and repaving approximately seven kilometres of Route 361 through Head of Bay DEspoir; resurfacing a section of Route 360 between Twillick Brook and intersection of Route 361; and repairing a frost bump at Conne River Hill.

"This is a substantial amount of road work for the district and will allow upgrading for areas that require immediate attention. I remain committed to working on behalf of the residents of Fortune Bay - Cape La Hune to secure additional funding in the future," said Langdon.

The department expects to call tenders for the projects over the next couple of months.
