Road upgrades for Carbonear - Harbour Grace

Percy Barrett, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and George Sweeney, MHA - Carbonear - Harbour Grace, today announced $320,000 in road upgrades for the area.

"There is some work to be done in the area to correct rutting, which contributes to hydroplaning. This funding will ensure this work is done, as well as some additional upgrades in the area to improve driving conditions," said Barrett.

Projects for 2001/02 include resurfacing sections of the Carbonear Bypass, which has severe wheel rutting, and resurfacing a section of Salmon Cove Road. "Residents have expressed to me their concerns about these particular areas, especially Salmon Cove Road," said Sweeney. "This road sees a lot of traffic and without a doubt needs to be done this year. I'm very pleased to have obtained funding for these very important improvements on behalf of my constituents."

The department expects to call tenders for the projects over the next couple of months.
