Almost $1 million to be spent on Trinity North roads projects

Percy Barrett, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Ross Wiseman, MHA-Trinity North, today announced $925,000 in funding for roads projects in the area.

"This funding comes from the departments provincial roads budget and has been allocated for several road improvement projects in the area," said Mr. Barrett. "Government reiterated its commitment to improving transportation infrastructure when the provincial budget was announced and now we are following through on that commitment."

Projects for 2001/02 include resurfacing various roads on Random Island and in the South West Arm area; widening and repaving a 0.5 km section of Route 239 (Dunfield Road); and replacing Lodge Bridge on Route 205 at Hillview.

"I am extremely delighted with this funding, as it represents an increase of more than 40 per cent over what was spent on roads in the district last year," said Mr. Wiseman. "The minister has listened to my concerns about the condition of roads in the area and has responded. The areas selected to be upgraded are certainly high priority and need to be addressed."

The department expects to call tenders for the projects over the next couple of months.
