The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Newfoundland and Labrador Games girls volleyball playdowns this weekend

The Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association is hosting the Newfoundland and Labrador Games Girls playdowns this weekend across the province. Starting with the Avalon playdowns, there are four teams competing for the right to go to the games. Holy Spirit, Frank Roberts/Queen Elizabeth, Roncalli and Ascension Collegiate. The tournament will be held in CBS at Queen Elizabeth High School on Saturday only.

St. John's North playdowns are being held in Bell Island on Saturday at St. Micheal's High, there are five teams competing - Gonzaga High, Booth Memorial, PWC, St. Paul's, and St. Micheal's of Bell Island. The tournament is set to start at 9:00 a.m.

Next is the Eastern playdowns, the tournament is being held in Clarenville at the Clarenville Winter Games Complex. There are five teams fighting for the gold on Saturday, Clarenville High, Random Island, St. Mark's of King's Cove, Glovertown, and Discovery Collegiate. The tournament is set to begin 9:00 a.m.

Last but certainly not least is the Western playdown. There are eight teams registered for the event and anyone of these teams could walk away with the gold and right to represent their region in the Winter Games. The tournament is being held in Corner Brook, at Herdman Collegiate 
and G.C. Rowe. The teams in action this weekend are, Division A: Regina, G.C.Rowe, Pasadena, St. James Jr. High. Division B: Elwood, Presentation, Herdman, and Stephenville. The tournament is set to start Friday, December 7 at 4:30 p.m.

The NLVA would like to thank Pepsi for sponsoring our minor events and supplying us with the awards. We would also like to wish all the teams participating this weekend good luck in the tournament.
