High School Federation boys' volleyball events

The Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation wraps up its provincial volleyball season this coming weekend with four boys' titles being decided.

The boys' A event is being hosted by Valmont Academy in Kings Point. Ten teams will compete in a two-division format at both Valmont Academy and Indian River Middle School. Division A will see action from Valmont Academy, Fortune Bay Academy, St. Bernard's School, St. Mark's Academy, Bonne Bay Academy and Eric G. Lambert. Competing for top honors in Division B will be Southwest Academy, Lumsden School Complex, Fitzgerald Academy, St. Peters Academy and Ecole St. Anne.

The first two matches of the A tournament will be played Thursday evening (December 6) at Valmont Academy. The remainder of the round-robin tournament will be played Friday morning (December 7), with games at both Valmont Academy and Indian River Middle School. The top two teams in each division will meet in the cross-overs 9 and 10 Saturday morning (December 8), followed by the championship at 12 noon.

The 2A tournament is being hosted by the new Tricentia Academy in Arnold's Cove. Six teams will compete in a round-robin format starting 9 a.m. Friday (December 7). Competing against Tricentia for the 2A banner will be Smallwood Academy, King Academy, Mountainview Collegiate, Dorset Collegiate and St. Joseph's Academy.

The top four teams from the round-robin will advance to the playoffs, with first vs fourth and second vs third playing off. The championship match will be played 5 p.m. on Saturday (December 8).

The 3A tournament will be hosted by Lester Pearson Memorial in Wesleyville. Five teams will compete for championship honors in this event. Facing off against Lester Pearson will be Baie Verte Central High, Bishop White, Piccadilly Cental High and Goose High School. The opening ceremonies will begin Friday (December 7) at 9 a.m., with the first matches to follow. The round-robin will conclude Saturday morning (December 8). The playoffs will feature the first vs fourth and second vs third placed teams. The championship match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

The 4A tournament will be determined in Grand Falls-Windsor. Nine teams will be vying for the title of 4A champions. Division 1 will be played at Exploits Valley High (Maple Division) and will feature Booth Memorial, Exploits Valley High, Queen Elizabeth Regional High, Crescent Collegiate and Regina High. Division 2 will be played at Exploits Valley High and will see action from Ascension Collegiate, Bishops College, Clarenville High and Herdman Collegiate. Games begin at 1 p.m. Friday (December 7) in both divisions and continue through Saturday (December 8). The top two teams from each division will meet in the cross-overs at 12 noon Saturday, followed by the championship match.

All teams will be competing for the championship banner, as well as the team sportsmanship banner. This will be the first year this award is presented at a provincial volleyball tournament and it is one of the highlights of the Federation's Sportsmanship First Program sponsored by Crime Stoppers.

All the federation tournaments are sponsored by School Milk Foundation, Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Keyin Tech.
