The following is being distributed at the request of the High School Athletic Federation:

High school sports back on track

The High School Athletic Federation will be continuing with its high school sports program now that the support staff strike has ended. Schools will be getting back to normal operations over the next few weeks which means teams can practice and travel and schools can host tournaments.

The next scheduled sports in the High School Athletic Federation calendar will be the girls and boys volleyball. Qualification tournaments will be held on the weekend of November 16-17 and 22 and 23 respectively. The winners of these will then move on to the eight provincial tournaments being held November 30, December 1 and December 7 and 8 throughout the province.

As a result of the strike, a number of high school sports competitions were cancelled, including four provincial soccer tournaments, four provincial slo-pitch tournaments and a cross-country running provincial championship. A decision on the status of these tournaments and on whether or not they can be rescheduled will be made at the next executive meeting of the federation.
