Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association annual general meeting

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association held its annual general meeting this past weekend in St. John's. Items that were resolved included the addition of a new policy manual, a new constitution and an elite program policy. The association elected George Power as its new president during the meeting. Mr. Power has been a member of the association for the past 20 years and has held many positions in the association. The new vice president is Tony Reardon while Randy Ash holds down the secretary/treasurer's position. Gary Sooley will fill the role of policy director and Terry Burton holds down the past president position. Other members of the board include: David Constantine �youth development director, Roger Head-senior tournament director and Doug Partridge as elite development director. 

Regional director positions include: Chris Budgell-Labrador, Doug Jewer-Western, Blair Sparkes-Central, Keith Farrell-Eastern, Gord Pike-Avalon and Shawn Doyle-Mt. Pearl/South. Other items on the agenda included: a decision to continue with the Elite Eight Championship for the immediate future, to support the new Shoot the Hoops Tournament and to promote the new Small Program presented by Canada Basketball in two locations of the province. 

NLBA awards were presented to: Clarence Sutton- Elite Coach of Year, Karen Hearn- Minor Female Coach, Dick Bruce-Minor Male Coach, Roger Head-President's Award, William Brophy-Achievement Award and Gord Pike-Achievement Award.
