Basketball hall of fame inductions

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association will induct the following people into their hall of fame on Saturday, June 23, at Hotel St. John's . 

In the Official category: Randy Ball. Mr. Ball has been an active official for the past 31 years, having started his officiating career in 1970. His experience spans the city, provincial and national scenes, and has held positions on the executives of the St. John's, Newfoundland and Canadian Referees Associations.

In the Builder category: Robin Short. Mr. Short has been an active member of the basketball community since the 1950's. Along with fellow Hall of Famer Gordon Breen, Mr. Short was responsible for the establishment of the Metro Basketball League, which is one of the oldest leagues in the province. His dedication and service of fairplay ensured the maintenance of a league designed for mature men to continue to enjoy the game of basketball. 

Builder: Martin Cull. Mr. Cull has coached basketball throughout Newfoundland, St. John's, Placentia and Corner Brook. Touted as one of the best coaches in the province he has passed his knowledge on to hundreds of players and coaches. His winning record is testament of his dedication to basketball and his superior communication skills. 

In the Player category: David Barrett. Mr. Barrett was one of the top athletes during the mid 1950s. Scoring championships and most valuable player awards came easy to this six foot two athlete. During his playing days the media called him "Mr. Basketball".
