Provincial high school table tennis championships this weekend

The Newfoundland Labrador High School Athletic Federation will hold the provincial table tennis championships this coming weekend at Glovertown Academy. Eight teams will be taking part in the competition which gets under way Friday morning.

A two division round robin format will be used, with the top two teams advancing to the championship match. Contesting the title in Division 1 will be Glovertown Academy, St. Augustine's (Plum Point), Eric G. Lambert (Churchill Falls) and Jane Collins Academy (Hare Bay). Division 2 will see action from Bishop White All Grade (Port Rexton), Indian River High (Springdale), John Watkins Academy (Hermitage) and Hampden High. 

Each encounter between teams will consist of five matches, boys singles, girls singles, boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles. The winner of the best two out of three in each encounter is awarded the win.

On Saturday, the individual competitions will take place. Individuals from the team competition, as well as individual qualifiers from Dorset Collegiate, Assumption Central High, Herdman Collegiate and Valmont Academy will be competing. Champions will be declared in boys singles, girls singles, boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles.

School Milk Foundation/Keyin College are the two major sponsors of the high school athletic federation and of the provincial table tennis tournament.
