The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Hoop Championships

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association will hold the final two Senior Provincial Molson Championships of the season this weekend. The Division I Men's Open will be played in Goulds at St. Kevin's High School with eight teams vying for the title. Teams include: Extreme Pita, Nova Physio, Greensleeves, Blacktop's, Labatt's, Provincial Airlines, Calio's and the Under 21 All-star's. The tournament starts at 3:30 p.m. Friday and will conclude with the championship game slated for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The "Ed Browne" Masters Championships will be hosted by Clarenville with a total of 15 teams entered in the three tier competition. Teams competing in tier one include: Big Ben's, Torbay Gym Rats, Pockets and Avalon Stematic from St. John's and Baie Verte. Tier two includes: Black Horse and Metro # 1 of St. John's, Woodmans' of CBN, Lewisporte and Clarenville. Tier three includes: Metro # 2, Lawton's and M5 Marketing of St. John's, Clarenville North Petroleum and Stephenville. The event will be played at the Newfoundland and Labrador Games Complex and Clarenville High School. The tournament will commence at 1:30 p.m. on Friday and will conclude with the championship games on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 and 1:30 p.m..
