The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Senior Provincial Championships, Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor, March 16-17

The NLVA hosted the Labatt Senior Men�s and Women�s provincial volleyball championships this past weekend. The tournament started Friday evening and ended late Saturday evening, when one team for each tournament was given the title of champion.

Men�s A had a total of five teams fighting for the gold. At the end of the day Benders was the top team. Benders made it to the final by defeating Port Rexton in the first semi final, 22-25,25-23,15-11. In the second semi final Marine Institute defeated Jungle Jim�s from Gander. The scores were, 28-26,25-22. The final was a good battle where Benders defeated Marine Institute, scores were 25-14, 25-18.

The All-stars and MVP for Men�s A were:

Tommy Kelly - Benders
Ryan Smith � Marine Institute
Mark Seward- Marine Institute
Russ Jackson � Jungle Jim�s
Doug Duffet � Canada Games
Brad Piercy- Port Rexton

MVP- Mike Hayes - Benders

Men�s B had a total of 14 teams fighting for the gold. At the end of the day Peddlers was the team on top. East Enders defeated Corner Brook in the first quarterfinal by the scores of 26-28, 25-16, 15-10. In the second quarterfinal Grand Falls-Windsor defeated Northern Bay with the scores of 25-16, 25-17. In first semi final match up Peddlers defeated East Enders with the scores of 27-25, 25-17.

In the second semi final Grand Falls-Windsor defeated West Side Charlies, scores were 25-21, 25-19. The final was a good battle where Peddlers defeated Grand Falls-Windsor with scores of 16-25, 25-19, 15-7.

The All-stars and MVP from Men�s B were:

Jamie Hynes- Peddlers
Corey King- Grand Falls-Windsor
Todd Parsons- Grand Falls-Windsor
Paul Nippard- West Side Charlies
Jeff Barnes- East Enders
Steve Coldford- Corner Brook

MVP- Jamie Benoit- Peddlers

Men�s C had a total of five teams fighting for the gold. At the end of the day Deer Lake was the team on top. Vol Vites made it to the final by defeating Amis D�al in the semi. The final was a good battle where Deer Lake defeated Vol Vites with the scores of 25-13, 25-20.

The All-stars and MVP for Men�s C were:

Dion Humphery - Deer Lake
Orshiny Benoit - Vol Voites
Lulas Pascal - Vol Vites
Nicolas Cormier - Val
Yvon Koelsch - Amis D�al
Terry Chin - Shanco

MVP � Andy Moss � Deer Lake

Ladies A had a total of 15 teams fighting for the gold. At the end of the day Jungle Jim�s was the top team. Poseidon defeated Executive Computer Supply/Labatt in the first quarterfinal by scores of 14-25, 25-16,15-7. In the second quarterfinal Sportstech defeated Phizzy Beers with scores of 25-16, 25-19. In first semi final matchup Jungle Jim�s defeated Poseidon with the scores of 25-16, 25-11. In the second semi final Canada Games defeated Sportstech the scores were 25-13, 25-16. The final was a good battle where Jungle Jim�s defeated Canada Game with the scores of 21-25, 25-14,16-14.

The All-stars and MVP from Ladies A were:

Cara Mitchell � Poseidon
Catherine Hennessy- Canada Games
Charlene Tilly- Canada Games

Ladies B had a total of 12 teams fighting for the gold. At the end of the day Coakers Crew was the top team. Coakers Crew made it to the final by defeating Straight Shore in the first semi by scores of 25-8, 25-23. In the second semi final Wedgewood Physio defeated Corner Brook with scores of 25-21, 25-18. The final was a good battle where Coakers Crew defeated Wedgewood Physio, scores were 28-26, 15-25, 17-15.
