Minister announces Newfoundland winner of Atlantic Provinces 2001
Youth Hunting and Fishing Exchange

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation and minister responsible for inland fish and wildlife, would like to congratulate 17 year old Anthony Crocker of Trout River, Bonne Bay, on being selected as the winner in the Atlantic Provinces 2001 Youth Hunting and Fishing Exchange Program. Anthony and his uncle Shawn White, also from Trout River, will travel to Prince Edward Island during October 1-3, 2001 to experience a world class Canada Goose hunting trip being hosted by PEI wildlife agency staff and local sponsors.

From July 3-6, 2001, 13 year old Jonah Clements and his dad John, Prince Edward Islands exchange winners, visited Newfoundland and Labradors mighty Humber River to experience a salmon fishing trip of a lifetime.

"This has been a wonderful chance to encourage our youth to become involved in outdoor activities and to experience other provinces hunting and fishing opportunities," said Minister Aylward. " It is important that we continue to encourage involvement of our youth in conserving our fish and wildlife resources for generations to come."

The Atlantic Provinces 2001 Youth Hunting and Fishing Exchange Program was announced in the 2001-2002 Newfoundland and Labrador Hunting and Trapping Guide and is endorsed by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. This initiative is supported by organizations including the Newfoundland Sportsmans Magazine, Marine Atlantic, Upper Humber Tours, Pine Ridge Lodge and Wilderness Tours Ltd., Complete Gun Smithing and the Newfoundland Partridge Forever Society.

"We owe a great deal of thanks to our local businesses and sponsors for helping us make this first ever Youth Hunting and Fishing Exchange Program a success and we look forward to future events that support youth involvement in all outdoor activities," said Minister Aylward.
