Travel subsidy for Labrador students maintained

The 2001-2002 Budget maintains support for the Labrador Travel Subsidy at $427,000.

"Participation in athletic activities contributes to a healthy, well developed individual. The costs of travel within Labrador and to the island portion of the province prohibit many Labrador school children from participating in athletic tournaments, " said Kevin Aylward, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "Therefore, government will maintain the funding for the Labrador Travel Subsidy at $427,000."

This funding will support transportation costs and permit the high school athletic federation to offer Labrador students an athletic program similar to that available to students on the island part of the province. It will allow a greater number of schools throughout Labrador communities to participate in the program.
