Minister announces heritage grants to increase

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, today announced that funding for heritage grants will be increased this year by $80,000, bringing the total grant to $161,700.

"We are very fortunate to live in a province with such a unique heritage. The heritage attractions throughout Newfoundland and Labrador are a vital part of our culture, as they serve to preserve and promote our history," said Minister Aylward. "The heritage grants support various heritage initiatives throughout the province."

These initiatives, which include the more than 200 museums in communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, not only provide a service to tourists, they have an important role in securing our history and culture and educating our citizens. Government has increased this years heritage grants to encourage and support the work of the many committees and volunteers dedicated to this important work.

"This new funding reflects governments commitment to this critically important sector. We can now look forward to continuing our efforts to preserve our heritage and to diversify our economy in an area where we have a real strength," added Minister Aylward.
