Minister congratulates municipal election candidates

Municipal and Provincial Affairs Minister Oliver Langdon expressed his congratulations today to all those who participated in yesterday's municipal elections.

"Strong municipal representation is essential to the growth and development of individual communities and to the progress of our province as a whole. I would like to congratulate all those who offered themselves for municipal councils," said Minister Langdon. "To those who were successful, I encourage you to proceed with continued vigor toward making your community a better place to live. I also encourage those who were not elected to councils at this time to continue their involvement toward community advancement.

"For many municipal councils throughout the province, service is on a voluntary basis," said Minister Langdon. "As this is the International Year of Volunteers, I would like to acknowledge the selfless commitment of time and talent that you will make to your community. Your ultimate reward will be to see the difference that you have made through your contribution."

On September 25, 123 municipalities held either full or partial municipal elections. An additional 62 full council memberships were elected by acclamation.
