Ministers express condolences to the family and friends of Dorothy Wyatt

Municipal and Provincial Affairs Minister Oliver Langdon and Sandra Kelly, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, today expressed condolences to the friends and family of the late Dorothy Wyatt, and joined the citizens of St. Johns and people throughout the province in mourning her passing.

"As the first female municipal councillor in the City of St. Johns, and then the first woman to serve as mayor of the capital city, Dorothy Wyatt made ground breaking strides in municipal politics and was an inspiration to many," said Minister Langdon. "She will be long remembered for her dynamic personality and will be truly missed."

Minister Kelly expressed her admiration for Ms. Wyatts work. "Ms. Wyatts strength of character and commitment to community made her a role model for women in this province. As one of the first women in this province involved in municipal politics, she demonstrated the importance of leadership and the value of having women and men participate in the decisions which affect all of us."
