Province preparing to accommodate passengers of in-bound flights

Municipal and Provincial Affairs Minister Oliver Langdon, minister responsible for the Emergency Measures Organization, said today that the province is preparing to receive a large number of passengers on in-bound flights diverted as a result of terrorists attacks in the United States.

"Airports in St. Johns, Gander, Happy Valley-Goose Bay and possibly Stephenville are on alert to receive in-bound flights diverted due to the terrorists attacks," said the minister. "Some flights have already landed and many more are expected. The province, through its Emergency Measures Organization, will work with key agencies to respond to this influx of people."

Minister Langdon said that every effort will be made to assist passengers who will need accommodations and other services pending the resumption of their flights.

"We are in contact with federal authorities and will cooperate fully with all efforts to assist passengers and flight crews," said Minister Langdon. "The province will issue updates on the situation as it unfolds."
