Minister proclaims April as New Homes Month

Oliver Langdon, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC), today proclaimed April 2001 as New Homes Month in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Mr. Langdon, accompanied by Elmo Russell, president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Home Builders Association, and Robert Candow, president of the Eastern Newfoundland Home Builders Association, signed the proclamation today at Newfoundlands first R2000 Envirohome on Blackmarsh Road, St. Johns.

"Im delighted to have this opportunity to promote New Homes Month," said Mr. Langdon. "Over the years, the residential construction industry has consistently made a significant contribution to the provinces housing market. The involvement of the Newfoundland Home Builders Association has helped to keep our economy growing, competitive and vibrant."

New Homes Month is a national campaign, and the premier housing event of the Canadian Home Builders Association. Across the country, the industry is opening its doors to show the latest in new home design, state-of-the-art technology and products. Consumers can explore the advantages of a brand new home, meet the professional builders in the community, learn about financing and discover whats involved in home buying.

"Todays new homes are better than ever," said Mr. Russell. "Whether you are looking for quality and comfort, energy efficiency, a healthier living environment, low maintenance or the latest designs and features, theres no place like a brand new home."

Commenting on the event, Mr. Candow said: "The key to a successful home purchase is choosing the right builder. Todays professional new home builders are committed to excellence, service and customer satisfaction. Every new home our members build is backed by a warranty."

The Newfoundland and Labrador Home Builders Association is the provincial association representing the provinces residential building industry. Members include new home builders, developers, renovators, trade contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, financial institutions and new home warranty providers.
