Funding announced for silviculture work in Terra Nova district

Terra Nova MHA Tom Lush today announced funding in the amount of $79,089 for a silviculture project in his district. The announcement was made in conjunction with Forest Resources and Agrifoods Minister Rick Woodford. The funding is being provided through the provincial governments silviculture program.

"The funding announced today for silviculture work will provide meaningful employment in the District of Terra Nova and will have a positive impact on the local economy," said Mr. Lush. "As MHA for the area, a long term goal of mine has been to ensure that we manage our forests in a prudent manner to ensure that we have a forest industry for future generations. I am pleased that government is continuing its commitment to ensuring the long term protection of our forest industry."

Mr. Woodford said responsible management of our forest resource through meaningful silviculture activity will ensure our forests remain productive into the future. "Silviculture initiatives such as this demonstrate governments commitment to sustainable forest management. In addition, it reaffirms governments dedicated effort toward maintaining a long-term forest industry in our province."

Quest Inc. has been awarded the contract for the work consisting of site preparation activity on approximately 350 hectares at Maccles Lake and Northwest Arm. The silviculture project recently got underway, employing four people for eight weeks.
