Municipal infrastructure and capital works projects announced for Twillingate-Fogo district

Gerry Reid, MHA - Twillingate-Fogo, today announced funding in the amount of $1,872,000 for municipal infrastructure and capital works projects for communities in his district.

Under the Canada-Newfoundland Infrastructure Program, a total of $1,090,000 will go to chlorination system upgrades and water and sewer projects. Programs are cost-shared between the provincial, municipal and federal governments. Reid announced funding in the amount of $100,000 for Fogo for an upgrade of the chlorination system, $420,000 for Tilting for a sewer project, and $570,000 for Joe Batt�s Arm for a water and sewer project.

"I am pleased to announce this funding for the district of Twillingate-Fogo, as a clear demonstration of this government�s commitment to providing safe, clean drinking water and water and sewer," said Mr. Reid.

The Canada-Newfoundland Infrastructure Program has a mandate to support the creation of green municipal infrastructure. Investments will include projects related to water and wastewater systems and solid waste management. The program is administered provincially by the Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs and federally by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. The program will mean a total investment in Newfoundland and Labrador of $153.7 million over five years.

Mr. Reid also announced funding in the amount of $782,000 for the district, allocated under the Municipal Capital Works program.

"This year, Seldom-Little Seldom will receive $385,000 toward water and sewer infrastructure under the a provincial-municipal cost shared program," added Reid. "As well, Cottlesville will receive $200,000 for the reconditioning of roads, and Fogo will receive $197,000 for upgrading of local roads."

Through the Municipal Capital Works program, $20 million will be spent in the province on a number of projects including those related to water quality, road work, solid waste management, fire fighting equipment and other municipal infrastructure needs.
