Minister comments on three new collective agreements reached
Labour Minister Anna Thistle is pleased to announce that three new collective agreements have been reached in the province. The agreements are as follows:

1) |
A four-year collective agreement has been reached between
Memorial University of |
|
Newfoundland and Labrador on behalf of Marine Institute and the Newfoundland Association |
|
of Public and Private Employees representing support staff. This agreement, which was |
|
concluded on August 22, 2001, is effective from April 1, 2000 and concludes March 31, 2004. |
|
The agreement was reached with the assistance of mediator Wayne Fowler of the Department |
|
of Labour. |

2) |
A three-year collective agreement has been reached between St. John's Transportation |
|
Commission and Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 1462. This agreement, which expires May |
|
31, 2004, was reached with the assistance of Brian Kenny, a mediator with the Department of |
|
Labour. |
|
|
3) |
A three-year collective agreement has been reached between Toromont Cat and the
2004, was |
|
International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 904. This agreement, which expires July 31, |
|
reached with the assistance of Yvonne Scott, a mediator with the Department of Labour. |
Minister Thistle congratulates all parties on reaching these agreements and noted that staff of the Department of Labour are always available to support labour relations initiatives throughout the province by way of mediation and facilitation.
"This assistance is not only available during the course of collective bargaining, but throughout the term of a collective agreement," said Minister Thistle.
